How Letra handles what you leave here
Letra is a place to leave letters and notes for others to find. There are no accounts, and it is built to keep as little about you as it can. This page says what it keeps, why, and what you can do about it.
Who runs it
letra.ph is run by its maker in the Philippines. For anything about your data, write to hello@letra.ph.
What Letra keeps
- Letters: the words, the spot you pinned and the town’s name, the stamp, wax, ink and paper you chose, when it was written, and any date or place it waits for.
- Private letters: the question, so the reader can be asked it. The letter itself, its sign-off and any replies are sealed with the answer. The answer is never kept, only a check that tells a right answer from a wrong one. The key that opens the letter is made from the answer each time it is given and thrown away. Nobody can read a private letter without its answer, including whoever runs Letra. If the answer is forgotten, the letter cannot be opened.
- Freedom Wall notes: the words, the paper, where on the wall they are pinned, and any stickers left on them.
- Reports: the reason given and anything added.
- A scrambled visitor key: made from your internet address and a secret, only to slow down floods and repeated wrong answers. Your address itself is never stored.
What Letra never keeps
- Your name, email or phone number. There are no accounts, and contact details are refused in anything you write.
- Answers to private letters.
- Your location. It is used in the moment, with your device’s permission, to check which letters are near you and whether one can be opened, and then forgotten. When it is sent to list letters it is rounded to about 11 metres.
Who else handles it
- Vercel (United States) runs the site.
- Neon stores the letters and notes.
- OpenStreetMap (United Kingdom) turns a pinned spot into a town’s name. It receives that spot, rounded, and nothing else.
- OpenFreeMap serves the map.
How long it stays
Letters, notes and replies stay until they are taken down. When several people report the same thing, it is hidden until it has been checked. Private letters written before 9 October 2026 were stored unsealed and are sealed the first time they are opened again; database backups may hold the older copy for a short while after that.
Your rights
Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), you can ask what Letra holds about you, have it corrected or taken down, or object to it being kept. With no accounts, the quickest way is to use “Report” on the letter or note, or write to hello@letra.ph saying where it is. You can also complain to the National Privacy Commission at privacy.gov.ph.
Keep it kind
Please leave out anyone’s contact details or private information, and anything you would not want read aloud in the place you leave it.
